Die casting

In the die casting process, the molten metal is injected into the tool form within milliseconds. Contrary to plastic injection moulding, a downstream deburring process is necessary to separate the actual articles from the lug and any spillways. Through optimised positioning of the article in the tool, the flow behaviour, the surface quality, and the number of calibres per die cast tool can be influenced. Manufacture your die casting prototypes with FLEX in order to be prepared as best as possible for series production.

Depending on article geometry and surface finish requirements, up to 40,000 shots can be realised with prototype tools. Accordingly, if multiple cavities can be realised in a tool, the parts output quantity can be a multiple of the maximum number of shots.

For this reason, in projects with a tight schedule, pre-series needs are often already covered by a prototype tool.

If the subsequent series manufacturing is designed for die casting, it is therefore advisable to already have the prototypes manufactured by means of die casting process in order to be able to identify early on the impacts of the manufacturing-compliant design on the requirements.

Optimal quantity to cost ratio: 50 pieces and up

Especially in the die casting sector, the capacities of the manufacturers are currently extremely limited. Therefore, the manufacturing times for prototype tools can be in the range of approx. 8-12 weeks. Prerequisite: the relevant capacities are available at the prototype manufacturer contacted.

However, in case of prototypes, the delivery time factor is very important and often the main criterion in the selection of the supplier. Through multiple benchmark enquiries, FLEX is achieving an added value for the customer here and achieves it to be able to provide the customer with the currently optimal delivery schedule since the capacities of multiple manufacturers and are being analysed and compared to one another.
